Dawn Staley made history by becoming the FIRST BLACK COACH MALE OR FEMALE to win “two” DIVISION I National Championships.

Dawn Staley is an American Basketball Hall of Fame player and coach, who is currently the head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks who just recently celebrated their second women’s basketball national championship on Wednesday.

She is a 2x time ACC player of the year, a 6x WNBA All-Star.

She a member of both WNBA anniversary teams for 2006 & 2011 as well as a 6x time Olympic gold medalist as a player and 6x Olympic gold medalist as a coach.


In a recent interview with The Breakfast Club, she talked about her long career as a player and coach, her early years playing overseas and how it is still “hard for Black Coaches to get an opportunity to reach success”. Charlamagne also asked her what the WNBA can do to provide bigger contracts for players? Her reply was simply, ” Invest in women”.

Charlamagne wrapped up the interview recalling Dawn’s appearance on ‘The Martin Show”. Dawn replied saying she’s more known from that show than her career but describes her time on set and hanging with the cast as one of the most memorable experiences she’s ever had.
