Aunjanue Ellis, Will Smith, Denzel Washington and Beyonce Headline List of Black Talent Nominated for the 94th OSCARS

Tuesday morning via YouTube live-stream, Tracee Ellis Ross along with fellow actor Leslie Jordan hosted the Official Nomination Show for The 94th Annual Academy Awards.

Some notable moments for the two hilarious actors included Jordan opening the live-stream saying, “I am so excited. I went to sleep like this…Tracee what time are you picking me up?” Ellis then goes on to continue the bit by reminding Jordan that the Oscars are on March 27th and they are only there to annouce the nominations. Another moment between the two occurred when Jordan joked that he will never know the feeling of hearing his name called at the Oscars saying, “A boy can only dream” Ellis then added, “And a girl can only dream too.”

As they moved through the complete list of nominations, starting with Best Actress in a Supporting Role, we took note of the Black Talent recognized in this year’s Oscars.

1. Aunjanue Ellis (Best Supporting Actress)

Ellis was nominated for her performance in King Richard, portraying Oracene ‘Brandy’ Williams.

2. Will Smith (Best Actor)

The movie star was recognized for his portrayal of doting father Richard Williams in “King Richard.”

3. Denzel Washington (Best Actor)

The legendary actor picked up his tenth Academy Award nomination, this time for best actor in
“The Tragedy of Macbeth” making him the most nominated Black actor in Oscar history
 — breaking his own record.

4. Ariana DeBose (Best Supporting Actress)

The Afro-Latina, DeBose, could make history along with actress Rita Moreno as the only two actresses to win this award portraying the same character (Moreno won Best Actress for playing “Anita” in the 1961 version of “West Side Story”.

5. Reinaldo Marcus Green (Best Picture)

“King Richard” cleaned up adding story-telling director, Green to this year’s list of nominations.

6. Paul Tazewell (Best Costume Design)

The designer’s picture perfect choices earned Tazewell his first nomination for the period piece, “West Side Story.”

7. Beyoncé (Best Original Song)

Queen Bey added another nomination associated with “King Richard” with the film’s featured
song and her original tune, “Be Alive”

8. Darius Scott (Best Original Song)

Scott was a collaborator on “Be Alive.” The American record producer, singer, songwriter,
vocalist, and instrumentalist earned his first nomination.

9. Stacey Morris and Carla Farmer (Best Makeup & Hair Styling)

The pair joined the holy grail of Hair & Makeup for serving looks with hit sequel,
“Coming 2 America.”

10. Questlove (Best Documentary Feature)

The Roots drummer is recognized for his directorial debut “Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)

The 94 Annual Academy Awards will air on ABC on March 27, 2022.
